Manifesto
All right, let’s get this straight.
Dislyxec Poet is a total mess. But it’s my mess.
This show is a celebration, an experiment, and probably a bad idea all at once. It marks 10 years since I first put my art out into the world, since I made my Instagram account in 2015, and started sharing whatever the hell I wanted, without any gallery or institution telling me what to do. So, to celebrate, I decided to do what I do best. Fuck around and see what happens.
I made 1,500 works on paper in 50+ different colors, framed in 11 different frame colors, and packed them onto the gallery walls until there was basically no space left. It’s loud, chaotic, and there’s way too much happening. Kind of like life itself.
The works? Corny quotes, personal thoughts, stupid jokes, social commentary, art world critiques, political digs, existential dread, and some really inappropriate shit. Some of these pieces were just random notes I’ve scribbled down over the years but never got around to painting. Some are from as far back as 2018. Some I came up with yesterday. It’s all a mix of things I’ve thought, seen, heard, or just made up to mess with people.
But here’s the real kicker. This is also a last dance. Dislyxec Poet marks the end of an era. This will be the last time I commercially release my corny quotes. I won’t stop writing them because honestly, it’s something I need for myself. It’s therapeutic. But I’ve taken them as far as I wanted to in an art context. Now, it’s time to move on. So yeah, this show is kind of a mic drop. And I’m making sure it’s a loud one.
But here’s where it gets fun. I’m oversaturating my own market. I’m putting out way too much work at once and pricing it in a way that’ll make some collectors lose their shit. The works are priced randomly from $1 to $1,500, but you won’t know how much a piece costs until you click on it on the website. No price labels, no logic, and no easy way to guess what’s worth what. Some of the best ones might be dirt cheap, and some of the dumbest ones might cost a fortune. It’s a game. It’s a scavenger hunt. And it’s also a giant middle finger to the way art pricing usually works.
See, the art world is built on exclusivity and artificial scarcity. Galleries make sure there isn’t too much of something, so the price stays high. Collectors hoard works like stocks, waiting for them to increase in value. Museums put paintings behind glass like holy relics. But what happens when there’s too much art at once? When the market is flooded? When collectors can’t control the supply? Does the value disappear? Do people still care?
I don’t know. But I want to find out.
This is also the first time I’m selling works on paper, making my art more accessible. And yeah, some people are gonna flip these works for profit. Others will hoard them. Some will be confused. Some will get mad. Some will just laugh. That’s the whole point.
And then there’s the title. Dislyxec Poet. Because, yeah, I’m dyslexic. And that shit is all over my work. I’ve misspelled things in paintings before, and I didn’t even notice until someone pointed it out. But instead of correcting myself, I just ran with it. Because language is messy, mistakes are human, and perfection is boring.
So, what’s this show really about?
It’s about too much art, too many thoughts, and too many choices. It’s about pricing, value, accessibility, and chaos. It’s about memes, capitalism, anxiety, and the internet. It’s about being an artist, a fraud, a genius, and an idiot all at the same time. It’s about me, you, the art world, and the fact that none of this actually matters, but somehow it still does.
So, welcome to Dislyxec Poet. Click around. Get lost. Overthink it.
Waste your money. Complain about it later.
Or don’t.
Either way, you’re part of the experiment now.
How It Works
1. Random Pricing & Display
Prices range from 1€ to 1,500€,
increasing by 1€ at a time but displayed randomly.
(You might find one that costs 1€, then another one that costs 1,500€, then 666€, then 42€ —
no pattern, no predictability)
2. No Prices Until You Click
The only way to see a work’s price is by clicking on it on the website.
3. First Come, First Served
Once a work is sold, it’s gone.
4. A Scavenger Hunt—No Sorting, No Filters
The only way to see the works is by scrolling online or visiting the show in person. You can’t browse by price, color, or theme—only by searching for a work’s exact title
(which is the text written on it) or part of it.
5. Framed & Ready to Go
Every piece comes framed, exactly as displayed.
6. Shipping Begins in May
All works ship after the show ends.
7. Expect Chaos
This is a social experiment and a game.
The market is flooded.
The outcome is unpredictable.
Bio
CB Hoyo (Havana, 1995) addresses topics that are usually thought of by many but spoken by a few: social media impact, consumerism, moral values, the human condition, … The Cuban self-taught artist finds in text art the path to developing his own artistic voice and understanding of life. He works between Instagram, the virtual realm, and his studio in Europe towards creating new dimensions where consciousness and art become a universal language.
CB Hoyo is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice consists of paintings, sculptures, and installations. Defying art classical canons with a playful aesthetic, he challenges our painting expectations and thoroughly reinterprets his medium in a modern context. His work is an extension of life that transforms language into a provocative visual spectacle.
Vibrant in color and surprising in personality, CB Hoyo's artwork humorously explores humanity's thoughts and behaviors. He captures and satirizes contemporary society's essence. His artworks constitute the artist's prolific and reflexive network of allegories to the new bizarre normality we live in. All of them are proposed from a very personal perspective, marked by his own experiences and observation of human concerns.
